Gratitude For My Body

There’s only one relationship

That is worth having

with this body of mine

It’s one of love

Of radical acceptance

The deepest gratitude

You don’t have to be perfect

For me to love you

You’re more than ok as you are

You’re different to others

To how you were

And you will change again

There have been hard times

Chronic illness

But your power to heal is unreal

You have endured trauma

But also love

Emotions that felt so huge

Thank you for being

Unbelievably resilient

When I haven’t cared for you

I’ve put you down

Given you no rest

Pushed you to the brink

I’ve fed you crap

That can’t be called food

Things you’ve had to process

But here we are

with a relationship

So utterly attuned

I’ve learnt what you can handle

As well as what you can’t

Though maybe that will change

You’ve adapted before

Given me your all

And now I’m ready to do better too

You are the one

I choose to love

And nurture through it all

For you have carried me

Over mountains

Across continents and more

You have birthed my child

Brought laughter and tears

rumbling forth from somewhere deep within

There are few

who truly deserve

my whole hearted and devoted love

But you for sure are one of them

And to you I now commit

Till death do us part
