I Don't Want Your Advice

I may be quiet, I may be shy,

there may be a tear in my eye

But I don’t want your advice

I may be exhausted, my house in a state

I may struggle with time and always be late

But I don’t want your advice

I may be unkempt, have my hair in a mess

There’s food on my clothes and I wish my bags were much less

But I don’t want your advice

These things are not what matter to me

I want your yes, I want your ear

I want your hug, I want you to hear

But I don’t want your advice

I want you to say, I see you, I’m here

I want your eyes to say I care

But I don’t want your advice

We will do this the way that feels right

Him and me are one you see

From my body he came to be

His voice, his yes, his no, his more, his signal, his cues is all I hear

My heart is his and you will see

this partnership is what guides me

So please don’t give me your advice
