Another Word For Hope

I have a word

It gives me hope

More than faith and love and trust

I have a word

It gives me power

More than self-reliance, autonomy

This word is sacred

Not like that

But holy deserving to me

Because it means

I can change

I have control

And to me that’s everything

This word means I can learn and adapt

My trauma can’t hold me back

Watch me grow

Watch me fly

morph and change quite readily

Did you see me?

I responded differently

I knew I could do it

My brain

My nervous system

Are not static

But alive and learning with me

I affirmed a new bias

I trained myself

I was quite devoted you see

It took hard work

And there were days

But that is quite ok

The pathway formed anyway

Now the tears don’t flood so easily

My breathing doesn’t go shallow

Cortisol doesn’t flood my body

Because the wound has started to heal

That narrative

That didn’t serve me

Has gone out with the sea

All because this word gave me hope

And in it I holy believe

So come and do the work with me

You’re not stuck to be

The person you think you will always be

You can change

And learn

And grow

Doesn’t that sound miraculous

Some days I think so

This word means hope

It’s powerful

It’s neuroplasticity
