She Who Knew Her Worth

She wasn’t beautiful
because of the
long and gentle curve
of her thighs
Her lochs of
thick dark hair
that amplified
the depth of her eyes
She wasn’t beautiful
because she lived her life
in service of others
Had the fullest of lips
given to her by her mother
That framed a voice
so deep and powerful
it lured and soothed
the most overwhelmed souls
She was beautiful because
she knew who she was
It was as simple as that
There was nothing to hide
She carried no judgement
Not in her bones
She knew how to be her
And to let others be
Her freedom, her conviction
Was where it lay
A beauty so astounding
it took your breath away
Her ability to see the beauty in others
Was anchored in the simple act
that she could first look within
to see a beauty so deeply profound
reflected back
Just as she saw the oddities
The quirks
The insecurities that bred the hurt
She knew like you
She had these flaws
and so she smiled
her most knowing grin
On her journey
as she encountered them
She knew she needed to grow
For only the most ignorant
Believed they didn’t
She’d get there as surely as the river flowed
There was no rush, she grew in the slow
The harsh parts of her would sand away
She’d change and morph as her soul
learnt the lessons
Meant only for her
The sky would open her,
to the potential that lay within
The sea would wash away the pain
that occasionally threaten to swallow the sparkle
The land would ground her in lessons of life
Show her the value of that which didn’t shine
Her freedom brought forth
A wave of envy from those who were trapped
In self doubt, self hatred and loathing
She had this confidence that couldn’t be rocked
Because the undesirable bits
were given the same love as
the honourable and shiny bits above
She held herself in an esteem so high
Resolutely refusing to be put down
By you or her or anyone else
She was who she was and in that she walked
The fiercest of walks
with the sweetest of smiles
You couldn’t ignore her
And in you, you saw the power to come
You too would be fierce and all knowing one day
Inspired by the beauty of she
who first loved herself
